U6 and U7 Team Assignments
Submitted By CYO President on Sunday, October 11, 2020
For our U6 (FUNdamentals) and U7 (Initiation Program) players and families, we have the ice and team information set for the rest of October. Note that for our U6 players, your ice time will be SATURDAY MORNINGS at 8am or 9am, and U7 will be SUNDAY MORNINGS at 8am, 9am, or 10am. Please read the rest of the article carefully as it contains much needed information about building access and team setup.

First and foremost ----- WELCOME TO THE CYO!!!! And for those who already have siblings on the ice in older divisions, welcome to the ice to our youngest family members!

NEW CYO PARENTS - please note that all of our NEW to CYO families - we need the parents to ALL COMPLETE the Alliance Respect in Sport-Parent program (online) ASAP. It is an online course and is mandatory for all parents (only one parent needs to take it). If you have a player in an older division and have already completed the course, you do not have to do it a second time, but you need to log into the Respect in Sport website and add the sibling to the account.

PRE-ICE HEALTH SCREENING

Parents must complete a health screening questionnaire from home before coming to the rink, confirming that your child is symptom free. A good reference is the Niagara Region Screening Tool. If your child is experiencing any symptoms, they are not allowed to participate.

MASKS MUST BE WORN INSIDE THE FACILITY - NO EXCEPTIONS

Everyone must wear a mask. The rule for the kiddos is --- MASK OR HELMET.  When the helmet goes on, the mask can come off. When the helmet comes off, the mask goes back on. This rule ALSO applies to COACHES.

CHILDREN MUST ARRIVE DRESSED - 15 MINUTES BEFORE ICE TIME

Please have your players dress at home, and carry in their skates, gloves, helmet, and stick. The doors to the rink will remain locked until 15 minutes before the ice time, and which point ONE PARENT PER CHILD may walk the child into the facility. As soon as skates are on and tied, and helmets are on and secured, non-coaching parents must leave the facility and wait outside.

25 ON THE ICE RULE

Per the City of St Catharines, we are restricted to having only 25 participants on the ice per session. This means that your kiddos are kept in very small contact bubbles, with 18-20 players, and 5-7 coaches. This helps us ensure that there is a little outside contact as possible.

Players will REMAIN in the dressing room until the other team is off the ice and the zamboni is on. Only once the players coming off the ice are back in their dressing room can the team going on the ice exit the change room.

NO SPECTATORS RULE

As we are sure you are all aware, there is a NO spectators rule within the city facility - Jack Gatecliff Arena. What this means is that the stands are completely off-limits, as is the ice area, for spectators (parents). We know that you love your kiddos and want to watch them on the ice, but we are simply unable to comply this season with our current situation. Please do not stand around for 15 minutes expecting to see the kids to walk out of the change room. The coaches will 100% ensure that there are no stragglers and each child is escorted from the change room to the ice area.

WATER BOTTLES MUST HAVE A NOZZLE OR PRESSURE SQUEEZE RELEASE. NO STORE BOUGHT SINGLE USE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES.

Each player must have their own water bottle (suggest having their name on it as they all look the same). We advise getting the one with a nozzle so they can get it through the helmet cage. Do NOT send single use twist top store bought water bottles.

PLAYERS LEAVE DRESSED

As soon as the players are off the ice, it's helmets off - masks on. Players can remove skates (or put skate guards on) then leave the facility dressed, as soon as possible to help facilitate cleaning the change room before the next group arrives.

ON ICE HELPERS NEEDED!

Now that you have read and understand the no-parents, no-spectators rule, please note that we are 100% in need of some parents to step up and help us on and off the ice. These parents are the ONLY parents who are allowed to be inside the facility during the ice time.

We are currently in need of 3-4 more coaches - moms or dads - who must at minimum have either a coaches certification, trainers certification, or managers certification.

Any parent willing and able to help out, please contact our Director of Initiation Programing, Sam Thompson, at [email protected] and she will make sure to fill you in on the requirements and needs of the position.
