Bench Area

  1. Certified coaches, trainers and managers are the only personnel allowed on the bench, other than team players.

  2. Program leaders will supply a list of coaches, trainers, and managers to the Registrar by November 1st of the current season.

  3. All team officials are to be certified by November 15th of the current season. Any uncertified team officials after November 15th will not be allowed to participate in the capacity of team official until they complete their certifications. Refusal to vacate the bench area by uncertified team officials will result in forfeiture of the game by offending team and possible suspension.

  4. The names of all team officials in the bench area are to be recorded on the game sheets under their appropriate certification level. Only a certified coach may sign as the head coach. Only a certified Trainer may sign as the Trainer.

  5. The names and jersey numbers of all players participating in the game are to be recorded on the game sheet.

  6. Game sheet violations are the responsibility of the Head Coach.

  7. No more than 5 team officials are to be on the bench during games.

  8. The minimum age for all coaches will be consistent with ALLIANCE guidelines.

  9. The head coach shall ensure that a certified trainer is present on the bench during games and practices. The head coach may request the opposing teams’ trainer as his own, in the absence of his team’s regular trainer, during games.

Certification Requirements

All team/league officials must obtain the following recognized certifications to participate in CYO Minor Hockey by  November 1st of the current season or risk being removed from the bench.

(*1) Certification from Hockey Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is mandatory for all House League and Select Level Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. U7 and U9 Coaches require NCCP Coach 1 – Intro Coach (minimum requirement). U11 to U18 requires NCCP Coach 2 – Coach Level (minimum requirement).

(*2) Hockey Trainer Certification Program (HTCP) Certification is mandatory for all Trainers.

(*3) On-Ice Helpers under 17 years old must be a registered CYO player and be wearing the following equipment: helmet with full-face shield, shin pads, gloves, and skates.

Injury Assistance On-Ice

Only certified Trainers shall be allowed on the ice to attend an injured player or official unless more assistance is required at which point the Trainer will request assistance.
