Minor Development Program

Minor Development teams are teams that participate at a level above House League Select team but lower than a team categorized as "A" hockey. Minor Development players do not participate in a House League Program.

CYO Minor Development teams must abide by Hockey Canada, OHF, and ALLIANCE residency regulations.

CYO Minor Development teams are permitted to participate in any ALLIANCE organized in-city or inter-city league.

Coaches

  1. All CYO Minor Development coaches must apply through the CYO website prior to tryouts. Applications will be reviewed by the Director of Development and voted on by Hockey Council.

    Assistant Coach:

    Trainer: must have HTCP Level 1 Training Certification and a minimum of 1 year training experience with the CYO. The Trainer must be present at every game and practice, and ensure that a fully equipped safety kit is taken to all games and practices.

Note: No person will be guaranteed a coaching position or a player within the teams of the CYO MD Hockey Program the following season because they or their parent have been elected or appointed as a Program Director or Assistant Program Director of any CYO MD Hockey Association.

Suspensions

  1. Any suspensions issued in League play or select play will carry over to each League according to OHF guidelines. The Head Coach or Team Manager must report any suspensions received immediately to the Director of Development and/or the Director of Risk, who will in turn forward the information the appropriate House League team.

  2. All match penalties (league, exhibition and tournament) will be reported by the game officials to the ALLIANCE Office.

Team Setup

  1. All MD teams must have a minimum of 12 players and 1 goalie by the final tryout or the team is folded for the upcoming season.

  2. After the tryout process and start of any CYO MD Hockey Program, a player may only return to the CYO House League program on or before November 30th of the current season.

  3. The player will then be allowed to return to the House League team, which lost a player due to his/her vacating spot on the MD team.

  4. If no replacement player is required, then it will become the decision of the Hockey Council as to where this player will participate within the CYO House League Program.

  5. No refund of MD Association fees will be granted as a result of the player's desire to stop participating in the CYO MD Hockey Program.

  6. Players playing in the MD program who decide to move back to House Leauge after January 15th must pay the full House League registration rate less insurance. MD will not forfeit any of their fees back to the player.

  7. After the House League player allocation meetings, no player may be removed from a House League roster to an MD roster without it being voted on and approved by Hockey Council.

  8. An MD team may however AP up to 19 players without approval.

MD Team Fees

  1. All costs required to participate in the Minor Development Program shall be borne by the team's participants.

  2. Fees will cover the cost of practices, exhibition games, tournaments and the entry fee for the ALLIANCE MD Championship Tournament, as well as ALLIANCE fees and administration fees.

  3. All teams will follow a budget established by the CYO Board. An estimated budget is to be presented to the families before the final selections are made.

  4. Any fundraising must be approved by the Program Director and/or Director of Development and requires approval by the parents.

  5. Player fees must be paid in full by December 15th of the current season, or players will not be permitted to participate.

  6. Team managers (or Head Coach) will present parents with a budget vs. actual report by January 1st of the current season and again prior to attending the House League Select Championships.

Program Director

Having been elected or appointed, no person is disqualified from office as a Program Director or Assistant Director of any CYO MD Hockey Association due to the fact they are not selected as a member of the coaching staff or their child is not selected as a player within the teams of the CYO MD Hockey Association.
