Allocation Terminology

Registered Player

  1. A Registered Player is a player who has filled out a CYO registration online (or by form) in full, and has paid the registration fee (or made arrangements with the CYO Office for payment).

  2. Any player who is not considered a registered player cannot step on the ice, and will not be placed on a roster under any circumstances.

  3. If a Program is going to cover the registration fee for a player, the player is only considered registered after the fee is paid, and the parent/guardian has completed the registration form.

Priority Card

A Priority Card is a tool that allows the Program to displace a lower registration number in the U13, U15, and U18 divisions. Each Program will receive only 2 (two) priority cards per hockey season that will offset all registration numbers. Priority Cards are to be used at the Program Leader's discretion on player(s) during the allocation meeting only.

Program Leader/Board Member Children

The children of a Program Leader and maximum 2 (two) Assistant Program Leaders, as defined in the bylaws, are guaranteed a spot within the Program/Team of their choice. In the case of Board members, their children are also guaranteed a spot within the Program/Team of their choice. Rationale – the amount of work one provides to these roles and the importance of volunteers in these roles should allow for this advantage. As a member of Hockey Council or the Board, your child's preference is only guaranteed if they are registered by July 1st. This is applicable if the registration is received prior to the date of allocation with payment and/or arrangements for payments accepted. The Program Leader or Assistant Program Leader must have been to a Hockey Council meeting prior to and including the August meeting.

Registration Number

When a player registers, the CYO's online process assigns a number to their registration. This is done automatically based on the date and time in which the registration was entered online. All walk-in registrations will be provided online access and assistance for online registration during designated office hours. Any registrations received by the league office are subject to delays created by the 3rd party entry online.

Priority Requests

»Sibling Unification
»To play for a Program requested in the previous season but did not receive for any reason (i.e. team may not have existed previous year)
»A child played MD the previous year and wants to come back to House League

Non-Priority Requests

»Want to play with a friend
»Want to play for Coach X  (also applies to transfers to a program of a Select team official)
»Moved and this is my school’s team

Lettered Players

Players designated as “lettered” include MD, AE, A, AA, AAA, or any OWHA Rep (any level). The player’s level is determined by the highest active play within the past two (2) years (prior to the pandemic). For example, “...did not play last year but was MD two seasons ago”.

Allocation Tampering
Any Team Official/Program Leader is not to ask players/parents to switch to their team. Any reported tampering will be investigated by the Director of Risk and may result in suspensions to the Team Official/Program Leader.
