As noted by CYO members, Tim has been the cornerstone of CYO Minor Hockey for years, even as his own children have graduated from minor hockey. Tim dedicates his time supporting many families and players alike through his work as a Parish Leader, consisting of a program with teams in multiple levels.

• He also oversees the Association timekeepers, training them on the different clocks across each arena, and ensuring that all the games have someone in the booth – sometimes that being Tim!
• Sabourin also serves on the CYO Executive Committee assisting with the overall operations of the entire League, and participates on the Rules and Bylaw Committees.
• As he is well-versed on rules and by-laws, he has been the chairperson for many CYO Annual General Meetings. He helps resolve conflicts and helps to ensure the correct process is followed in any situation.
•
In the 2021-2022 season, not only was Sabourin the U18 Head Coach but he was also on the at-large roster and could frequently be seen helping on other benches.

“My first interactions with Tim demonstrated to me that he cared about the kids and that hockey was all about developing them as young people and not just as hockey players. Hockey was just an avenue to develop the whole person. Not only did Tim coach many teams over the years, but he also has his trainer’s certification. He is always prepared with every possible item that a trainer would need including items you wouldn’t think he would have. I had the pleasure of being with Tim on the bench this year. As head coach, Tim is well-respected by his players. This year he coached a U18 team as a non-parent. He stepped up to coach the team when there were no other volunteers. He also really enjoys the U18 age group and mentoring the teenagers, soon-to-be adults, to exhibit good sportsmanship and to become fine, young citizens. In his season-end wrap up, he told the players how it was an honour and privilege to coach them and that they were all amazing people with bright futures. He inspires them and offers to be a reference whenever they may need one or if they need someone to talk to about anything, he would be there to listen. Tim is that approachable. Kids have loved playing for him. There is a mutual respect between player and coach.

I can go on about how kind and deserving Tim is to be the Volunteer of the Year. He has put countless hours of his time to volunteer on the bench, in the rinks, travelling to tournaments and completing all the administrative tasks necessary. Not only has he stayed with CYO after his kids graduated, but he also continues to volunteer for the two other hockey organizations that his kids are now a part of. He is giving to others and one of the most selfless people I know.”
- Sabourin’s Assistant Coach

“Tim has been an outstanding member of the St Catharines CYO house league community for as long as I can remember, from being parish leader, to convening games he’s done it all. I started playing hockey at the age 4, and Tim has made an impact on my playing time for just about as long. He is a truly wonderful person, and an incredible role model for all ages. On the regular Tim is making an incredible impact in the CYO community, he coaches teams, convenes games, finds volunteers, partners and so much more. No matter who you ask in the CYO community, parents, players, grandparents and more they will all have nice things to say about Tim and his commitment to the CYO community. Every year, Tim rallies together our teams, to the point where they are comparable to families. He is a person that loves the competitive fire of the game but also has great morals and will tell someone when they need to calm down and take it down a notch. In my opinion, Tim is the perfect candidate for the award and most definitely deserves for all that he does for this league.” – former Player

"I played Tyke with Coach Tim. What an awesome way to finish my CYO journey, with the same coach, and a true hockey mentor!  Tim's dry wit, and grace and dignity, and the way he instills sportsmanship and life skills on his players is second to none.” – U18 Player

“Since we joined the CYO organization about 10 years ago, Tim has been a humble, dedicated, and welcoming presence. He has always approached families with patience and demonstrates a great display of commitment by organizing a variety of necessary components to keep CYO running smoothly. So much of his own time is happily dedicated to the children because Tim loves it so much. He recruits timekeepers, organizes tournaments and game schedules and banquets. He always shows the kids his smile of encouragement and makes everyone feel welcome. This year, Tim coached a U18 team. This age group certainly has its challenges, but Tim showed up and encouraged every child. When we shared with Tim that our athlete was struggling with mental health and was having difficulty getting to hockey, Tim took time to check-in with us regularly and offered his support. His genuine words meant so much to us and to our children that hockey was an important constant during these difficult months. Our teenagers loved going to hockey because Tim built them up and demonstrated care. He gave them the belief that no matter what, he appreciated them and wanted them to do their best.” - U18 Family

“Tim never asks for recognition for the things he does. There are the little things he does, like buying the team bananas and water and the big things like supporting players by finding equipment for those who need it. He quietly slips in and out of the arena, but his presence and commitment do not go unnoticed by all.”
– CYO Member

“He is a kind and caring coach, obviously passionate for what he does for the league, ensures that everything gets done properly in a timely fashion, and provides great insight into what should be done to improve whatever is being done. Whether it be organizing a banquet for the Parish, ensuring that the medal presentation ceremonies are on point or just making sure that all the players on his team are getting equal opportunities to play and have fun, Tim is one of the best people for the job, and is always ready to make sure that everything is done properly.” – CYO Member

Thank you Tim for your contributions to minor hockey and for being a shining example of a fantastic volunteer.

Congratulations on being named the 2022 ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year!
